Occurring every second year in September, Doors Open Thunder Bay is an opportunity for participants to learn more about the city's heritage and culture. Historic sites open their doors free of charge to the public for the day.

The Thunder Bay Kite Festival offers locals and visitors the chance to spend an afternoon on the waterfront while enjoying a variety of fun activities. Some of the past attractions include kite flying demonstrations, crafts, face painting, games, kite relay races, ribbon dancing workshops and more.
