One of the five Great Lakes of North America, Lake Ontario is bound on the north by the province of Ontario and Ontario's peninsula and New York State on the South. The lake is the smallest of all five Great Lakes.
Lake Superior is the largest of the five Great Lakes and also has the largest surface area of any freshwater lake in the entire world at 82,000 sq km (32,000 sq mi). The lake separates the province of Ontario and the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. The lake is fed by over 200 rivers and the Sault Locks at Sault Ste. Marie allow ships to travel between Lake Superior and the lower Great Lakes.
