Welcome to Thunder Bay, Ontario

Set on the shores of Lake Superior, Thunder Bay is located in northwestern Ontario, 51.5 km (32 mi) from the Canadian/US border. The City by the Bay draws visitors to its bounty of natural attractions, which include marvels such as the distinctive Sleeping Giant rock formation and the thundering Kakabeka Falls. An abundance of winter snowfall makes both Nordic and alpine skiing and snowmobiling popular outdoor pastimes. A Finnish sauna is often the reward for a day well recreated. Thunder Bay also serves as a starting point for hunters, anglers and canoeists preparing to tackle the Ontario wilderness. Once one of the world's largest fur trading posts, Fort William Historical Park now serves as a portal back in time due to the intriguing living history presentations. The Terry Fox Memorial marks the spot where the young hero was forced to end his ambitious cross-Canada run—which is emulated across Canada to this day—due to the progression of his own illness.
